Why we built it this way.
Most health apps work the other way around. Your symptoms, periods, and moods go up to a company's servers, where they can be studied, shared, or sold. Mozilla's Privacy Not Included guide has reviewed a long list of health and period apps and found that a lot of them collect and share more than people expect. We did not want to be one of them.
So Valeska keeps an encrypted copy on your device and does its pattern work on your phone, not in someone else's AI service. You can read the full details, including how local and synced records are protected, on thehow it works and your privacy page.

Secure sync when you upgrade.
Pro and Family include cloud sync and backup so approved devices and caregivers can access the information you allow. Sync is enabled for upgraded accounts and can be turned off in Settings. Drop back to the free plan and your local record remains available.
When you invite a caregiver, you pick exactly what they see, and the limits you set are enforced down at the data layer, not just in the buttons. Turn off their access and it ends right away.
